sounds like a Natural Gas Pipe Line venting. I live near several pipelines and this happens on occasion. If indeed that is what it is...that would be a very good reason you felt your head spinning. If your close enough the noise alone can make you ill because of the volume. sometimes when they are inspecting the pipelines they have to vent the trapped gas under? high pressure so they can insert a device that travels the pipe looking for cracks and weak spots.
